Alright, guys. Real talk. Do people just go to rehab now when they’re feeling sad? Is there rehabilitative therapy for the seriously bummed? This is a genuine question because apparently, that is something celebrities do now. When they’re sad. They go to Feelings Rehab.
It came out today that Selena Gomez cancelled the final dates of her Australian tour back in December 2013 because she was checking herself into the Arizona facility, Dawn at the Meadows. At the time, she released this statement: “It has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first…I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be.” Which, okay, obviously rehab. I mean, a statement that vague has “rehab” written all over it. A young woman who hasn’t taken a break for the better part of a decade doesn’t just randomly walk away from the last few weeks of a world tour to be a better person. But apparently, her short stint at Meadows was not for substance abuse. It was because she was having a hard time getting past her break-up with Justin Bieber.
According to an E! insider, Selena’s on-again, off-again issues with the Biebs were throwing her into such a turmoil that she needed intensive therapy or something. The insider says, “Her continuing interaction with Bieber was causing a strain in her relationship with her understandably concerned family and friends.” Which I guess means time to go to rehab? Sure, okay.
So, checking yourself into a rehab facility is now something you do when you’re having a hard break-up. Good to know. Look, I have no issues with Selena Gomez, and I cannot even imagine dealing with a traumatic break-up like that, with the whole world watching. But come on. You’re one of the richest young people in the world. Take your private jet to a remote island, order a giant tub of Chunky Monkey and call it a day. Leave the rehab for the people who really need it.
