If you watch Game of Thrones in a legal sort of way (and if you don’t, no judging!) you were lucky enough to catch the extended trailer for the new HBO series The Leftovers, which aired this past Sunday. The Leftovers is created by Tom Perrotta, author of the novel of the same name. He also wrote Election and Little Children, just to name a few. Perrotta teams up with creator Damon Lindelof (Lost), who will also serve as showrunner. Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) will direct. If that’s not enough of a dream team, the show will star Justin Theroux, Liv Tyler, Chris Eccleston, Ann Dowd and Amy Brenneman.
The Leftovers deals with what may or may not be the religious Rapture and asks, “What happens when The Rapture comes, but you are left behind?” Here’s the official description:
When 2% of the world’s population abruptly disappears without explanation, the world struggles to understand just what they’re supposed to do about it. The new drama series ‘The Leftovers’ is the story of the people who didn’t make the cut.
Based on the bestselling novel by Tom Perrotta, ‘The Leftovers’ follows Kevin Garvey, a father of two and the chief of police in a small New York suburb, as he tries to maintain some semblance of normalcy when the notion no longer applies.
If you missed it on Sunday, you can watch the full trailer below. Be careful: because it’s HBO, it’s kinda NSFW. But it looks SO AWESOME, you guys.
The Leftovers will premiere June 29 and I personally cannot wait.
