You guys, I’m in Arrow withdrawal. It’s my own fault. After the BFF
harassed me into submission gently suggested that I watch it, I binged the entire series within about a week. Finishing up season two in real time was excruciating. I mean, having to wait an entire week to see more of Oliver Queen saving lives and shooting arrows and being shirtless? Torture. And now it’s summer and there is no Ollie, no adorable Felicity, no badass Canary to be seen. It’s kind of a bummer. That’s why I was so excited to hear about some new characters lined up for season three. Who are they? Well, I’ll tell you, but this might be considered a spoiler, so read at your own risk.
Two of the new characters will play a big role in Oliver’s next set of flashbacks – if you remember, when we last saw Flashback Ollie (AKA Oh-God-Why-Is-My-Wig-So-Terrible Ollie) he was getting off the island and arriving in Hong Kong. As we learn more about his history with ARGUS, we’ll meet Toshi and his wife, Akiko. Toshi will serve as a mentor, a handler and, eventually, a friend to Oliver. According to the description, he is “a well-trained operative, skilled in weaponry, combat and intelligence gathering.” His wife Akiko is also a trained martial artist. Some fans are speculating that Akiko could be DC’s Lady Shiva, a martial artist and member of the League of Assassins.
We’re also getting a new villain in Starling City: Seth is not only a physical match for the Arrow, but he’s also “a well-educated criminal with grand ambitions and a knack for chemistry.” This recurring character defeats his enemies by exposing them to a chemical that drains their willpower. He’s sure to stir up some trouble and get a nice “you have failed this city” speech from Oliver at some point, right? Unless he wills Oliver to shut up, I guess.
Finally, the most interesting new character is Daniel. Daniel is described as “a handsome, enigmatic and highly intelligent entrepreneur developing groundbreaking technology.” This recurring character will prove to be a rival for Oliver both personally and professionally – and he could also be a love interest for fan fave Felicity Smoak. WHAT?! No, Olicity, say it ain’t so! Daniel will be charming in public, but he’s tortured by a dark and tragic past – and we all know, those are the sexiest kinds of pasts. They’re also kind of Felicity’s thing, if you haven’t noticed.
Many DC fans are buzzing with the news of “Daniel,” which might actually be a code name to throw us off the scent of his real identity: DC’s Blue Beetle, Ted Kord. Ted Kord matches the description pretty well – rich, driven, tech genius – plus, Daniel is the name of the Golden Age Blue Beetle, which might just be a hint to diehard fans. Ted Kord has been mentioned a few times already on Arrow – once by Moira Queen, who mentioned that her husband Robert had attended a fundraiser sponsored by Kord Industries. Also, both Cyrus Gold and the Clock King burglarized Kord Industries at different times.
Do you think Daniel is really Ted Kord? Are you excited about the new characters?
