American Horror Story Season 5 Will Not Take Place In Space

Sorry, space fans. It looks like season five of American Horror Story won’t be taking place in outer space. Many fans have been speculating about the plot of season five after learning that creator Ryan Murphy would be dropping hints in the first two episodes of American Horror Story: Freak Show. I even went through some of the more popular theories myself. But it turns out, we’re all wrong. Dang.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Murphy explained:

People are already thinking they’ve figured out season 5’s plot. Have you noticed if anyone has gotten it right?
I’ve been looking and nobody has gotten it right.

A lot of people are thinking it’s space-related due to Elsa’s song last week.
No. We’re not doing space. Because space is not in America. It’s American Horror Story not Intergalactic Horror Story. But I thought the clues about people thinking it was space were clever. I always love it when people come up with these theories but it is 100 percent not space. It is land-bound and it takes place in the United States.

So, I guess we were wrong about that one. Then again, last year Murphy said that everyone was wrong about Freak Show, despite the many rumors online about a carnival theme. Yes, technically a circus and a freak show and a carnival are not the same, but come on. People kind of got it right. Maybe space isn’t so far off base after all – maybe it’s something similar to space, but not in space – Area 51 keeps getting mentioned, but that might be too obvious. Hmm.

I watched last night’s episode carefully and I didn’t catch anything that might be considered a clue. The only thing I can think of is jail – lots of talk getting sent to jail in episode one, and last night we see one of the freaks (RIP Meep) land in a jail cell. But that’s all I got – what about you? Did you catch anything that might be a hint? Maybe season five is all about Fiona Apple?

  1. I’m thinking a time with lots of music, since there’s been a standalone song performance in both episodes this far. So the roaring twenties? A cabaret? Burlesque club? (I guess the latter two could happen during the roaring twenties, lol). But now I really hope it’s that. Because space would be lame sauce.
