Even though they screwed it up last season, Project Runway All-Stars has a good reputation for giving former contestants a chance at redemption. Its winners from seasons one and two – Mondo Guerra and Anthony Ryan Auld, respectively – both deserved their wins and really needed that second chance to make it happen. I think the whole show was designed to give Mondo the win, to be honest. I mean, Gretchen? Ugh. But my point is, it’s a decent show. The fourth installment premieres this week and Lifetime TV has announced the new line-up. They seem to be running out of truly great designers, but it’s still a nice collection of styles and personalities. Designers Georgina Chapman of Marchesa and Isaac Mizrahi of ugly stuff you find at Target will judge along with new host Alyssa Milano. Total hardass Zanna Roberts Rassi will serve as mentor.
Here’s the list of contestants:
Alexandria von Bromssen, 39
Season 12, runner-up
Two things I remember about Alexandria: she was hella socially awkward and her designs were really dark and interesting. Excited to see more from her.
Benjamin Mach, 36
Benjamin, I do not remember you. Sorry!
Chris March, 51
Season 4, fourth place
Chris is probably already my favorite to win, just because I love him. I love his style, his sense of fun and his genuinely nice personality. Since his run on Project Runway, he’s had his own show on Bravo and designed for Meryl Streep, Beyonce and Lady Gaga, so I guess he’s doing alright for himself.
Dmitry Sholokhov, 35
Season 10, winner
I still think it’s kind of lame to bring previous winners back to win again, but I do love Dmitry. He’s a very interesting designer.
Fabio Costa, 31
Season 10, runner-up
The only thing I’m sure I remember about Fabio is that he annoyed me. I don’t remember if I actually liked his work or not.
Gunnar Deatherage, 24
Gunnar was eliminated pretty early in season 10 and I was disappointed that we didn’t get to see more from him. I’m glad he’s getting a second chance to show his stuff.
Helen Castillo, 26
Season 12, fifth place
I remember liking a lot of Helen’s work, but I also remember that she was a one-woman drama factory who burst into tears at every available moment.
Jay Sario, 35
Season 7, fourth place
For someone who finished in fourth place, I have no recollection of Jay Sario or his work.
Justin LeBlanc, 28
Season 12, third place
Justin LeBlanc was Project Runway‘s first hearing impaired contestant and he was also the first to receive the Tim Gunn Save. Justin was basically a delight in all ways.
Kate Pankoke, 25
Season 11 and Season 12 (fan vote)
Ugh, they are letting Kate back on for a third time? Woman, you can’t win. Just stop it.
Michelle Lesniak, 35
Season 11, winner
This is apparently the barf section of contestants, because as much as I dislike Kate, I dislike Michelle Lesniak more. What a mediocre, disappointing winner.
Patricia Michaels, 47
Season 11, runner-up
Patricia should’ve won her season based on originality alone, even though Nina Garcia ardently fought against her, week after week because “fashion isn’t art,” or some garbage. Glad she’ll be back without Nina to ruin things.
Samantha Black, 29
I remember liking Samantha, because she stayed out of all the horrible drama from season 11. She was just like, a normal person? I’m hoping she’s not overshadowed again, though, since a lot of the same drama queens are back.
Sonjia Williams, 29
Season 10, fifth place
Sonja, I don’t remember you, but I love your hair.
