Shine Texts: Making My Mornings Slightly More Tolerable

sunshine-sunflower-morning

This might be a running theme on my blog, but I really think that mornings suck. More often than not, I wake up grouchy. I grind my teeth in my sleep (so sexy) and thus almost always wake up with a headache, plus it’s so early and gross in the mornings. Odds are, if I’ve just woken up, I hate you and everything you stand for.

In my journey to wellness, I’ve been looking for little pick-me-ups that will help me hate things less, especially when I’m getting ready to start my day. I definitely need the most encouragement in the mornings. I don’t actually remember where I found out about Shine texts, but I thought it looked cute and signed up about a month ago.

Shine describes itself as “daily affirmations straight to your phone,” but I would actually describe it more like a friend giving you advice, with a little cheerleading on the side. With Shine, you get a daily text (you can pick what time it comes, and it’s only Monday through Friday) that includes a cute message and anything from quotes, to advice, to tips for your day. All texts link to a related long-form article, which are really quite good.  I do find that sometimes they partner with other outlets for articles, which is fine, but their original content is usually much better.

A text I got from Shine (through the app) on January 11th.

Shine also has a new app, which features mindfulness exercises and meditations for a fee. If you have data limits on your phone, you can get your texts free through the app as well. I haven’t used the pay services yet since I’m already using a different app for meditation, so if anyone out there tries it, let me know what you think.

I won’t say that Shine texts help me embrace every day with joy and enthusiasm, but the articles are usually quite good and their texts often make me smile.  The way I see it, there’s nothing wrong with a little bit of free positivity in the mornings.

If you want to sign up for Shine texts, you can do so on their website. I have a referral link, which says it will give me “Shine Swag” for friends who sign up. I don’t really know what that means, but hey, why not? Sign up for Shine texts.

EDIT: I looked it up and “Shine Swag” is random stuff like a tote or a hoodie (cute) or a shout out in a Shine text (no thank you), so I guess I am ambivalent about the referral code? Either way, sign up if you’d like!
