The title of this blog post is a tad misleading, because these are not beauty items that I have discovered at all. Not even a little bit. These are actually beauty items that people have been raving about for a while, and my slow ass just caught up. But even though I’m late to the game, I’m happy to say that The Hype Is Real. Here are some of my favorite not-new-but-new-for-me beauty products.
This shit is bananas, and I don’t just mean the crazy long name. This face mask is a powder that you mix with either water or apple cider vinegar to form a clay paste. You apply for 5-20 minutes, depending on how sensitive your skin is, and then feel it literally yanking the gunk from your pores. Seriously. Straight from the product label itself: FEEL YOUR SKIN PULSATE. Yes, it says that and yes, it’s in all caps. Twice. When this is on, your skin actually sort of throbs? But in a good way? I can’t explain it. This is one intense mask and not recommended if you have trouble with harsh products. But damn, are my pores clean! Oh, and it’s like $8 on Amazon.
Things I usually don’t like: lip gloss, so-called “universal” shades, super shiny lips. Things I love: this! Rihanna’s lip gloss is the only thing I’ve tried from Fenty Beauty so far (most of her stuff is way too daring for me) but this lip gloss is actual perfection. I’m obsessed. It’s the most beautiful pink-peach shade, with just enough shimmer and shine to look flattering without that gross wet look. And the formula is amazing–it stays on for hours and isn’t sticky at all. I’ve basically worn it every day since I got it for Christmas.
When it comes to foundation, I am a full coverage girl all the way. So, even though I’ve heard for ages how this CC cream from It Cosmetics is a luminous foundation for problem skin, I ignored it. Spoiler alert: I was dumb. This stuff really does provide a full coverage look without the heaviness of a foundation. The SPF is also a bonus.
I know, I know. It’s like, really Shelly? You didn’t know a MAC product was going to be good? But honestly, I’ve just never tried this setting spray until recently. I don’t know if it actually keeps my makeup on longer, but it gives everything a soft blur effect that I really enjoy.
What are some of your favorite new (or not new) discoveries?
